Nite Crawl

October 2003

By Roger Anderson

Did anyone see Firehouse perform the National Anthem in September at the Vikings opener, I did.  Their 4-part harmony set the fans on fire, and evidently the Vikes as well.  WE WON!  Keep it up boys.  There is NOTHING like seeing our Purple Pride rock the house at the Dome with a capacity crowd - it’s great and thanks for the tickets on the field – what an experience!!! . . . Also in September a highlight was seeing my brother, Mr. Dave Wing of Knight Crawler, being nominated for “Best Guitarist” by the Minnesota Music Academy.  Unfortunately, he lost, but it was a good showing.  I have worked along side Dave for over 11 years.  I believe such merit is worthy of a bad-ass guitarist.  He rocks!  If you haven’t seen Dave, check out a Knight Crawler gig.  For gig info, phone 9KC-996-LIVE.  Congrats Dave, it is truly an honor to receive the nomination, speaking from experience (hint hint, what have I done wrong these last couple years- oh well guess it’s not my turn - time to step aside and give someone else a bit of glory – maybe next year?!?!?!). . . . ON SALE NOW – DAVID BOWIE, JANUARY 11th, 2004 at TARGET CENTER w/special guest, Macy Gray . . . Mr “Boom Boom Out Go the Lights,” Pat Travers, Mr. Jim Dandy to the rescue – as in Black Oak Arkansas and Woodstock pioneers - Canned Heat, (Goin’ Up Country) live at the Medina Ballroom on the 3rd of October.  Wear your bell-bottoms or, better yet, mini-skirts -  yeah,  baby!  Also, Canned Heat has a new disc out on Fuel 2000 that is getting airplay nationwide, and the critics are claiming it’s one of their best efforts to date, check it out . . .  Touched rocks Bogarts in Apple Valley on the 4th of October on a 93X co-sponsored event . . . Slayer for you rock dogs, live on the 8th at Roy Wilkins Auditorium, tickets only $30 . . . Queensryche at the Quest for a 6:30 early show on the 11th. . . Also, under new management, the Star Bar rocks Southern style with a Biker extravaganza with Dawg Wild – they could very well be the hottest new act to perform “Southern rock” in the Northland since Austin Healy set sail . . . Jackson Brown and his rock anthem, “Brown Eyed Girl” (now who hasn’t sung that tune?) on the 12th at the Historic State Theatre . . . Also, Great White to return to the Twin Cities in another Station Family Benefit Concert at the Salida Events Center on Sunday the 12th in Big Lake, MN on Hwy 10, just short of St. Cloud.  Be there – it’s a great cause and their last performance at the Medina was unprecedented. . . Stunning Grammy Award-Winning Musical Poet and Pioneer, Emmylou Harris, at the Historic State Theatre on Monday, Oct. 13th. . . It’s a grand opening at Black Dawg Grille in Burnsville with G. B. Leighton on Thursday the 16th, Rubber Soul (A Tribute to the Beatles on the 17th and Joey Molland & Company aka Badfinger on Saturday the 18th.  Check out the new venue, it has 600 capacity, a great pa system and is destined to rock southern suburbia . . . The Eagles soar once again on the 17th at the Xcel Energy Center, the good seats are $151.50 - yikes . . . For the “Show of the Month,” don’t miss Jewel live in concert at the Northrop Auditorium at the University of Minnesota on Oct. 18th as she has come out of her shell and surfaced as a rock sexy diva that she displayed very righteously, as seen in her last video – I like her tooth, it’s kind of snagglepuss-like, rroarrrr! . . . Road trip of the Month:  Oct. 18th at Boxer’s in Faribault for a sneak peak at Jesse Lang.  Jonny, step aside, this 20 year sister “diva” is ready to rock . . . I’ll see you front and center for Tony Bennett at Mystic Lake Casino on the 21st.  “I Left My Heart in San Francisco!” – total class!!!! . . . Simon and Garfunkel, a Jam Production at the Xcel Energy Center on the 26th – now that is cool! . . . Got tickets for Shania Twain on the 28th at the Xcel Energy Center? CALL ME!!!! Her Chicago TV special was such a tease, I gotta go!  Where’s my old boss who is Shania’s booking agent, I must give him a call -  backstage Rod??? . . . One of the most renown musicians of all time, Ian Anderson (no relation) performs Jethro Tull classics such as “Aqualung” and “My God” behind his flute at the Fitzgerald Theatre on the 30th. . . Halloween at the Star Bar in Columbia Heights on Central with Boogie Wonderland is my pick on the 31st.  Last year’s bash was unprecedented with Knight Crawler at the Star Bar and Boogie Wonderland will live up to all expectations . . .  Up Next…November 10th Aerosmith and Kiss at Target Center – “I Wanna Rock ‘n Roll All Night and Every Day.” . . .Huey Lewis and the News at Mystic Lake Casino on the 16th of November and yes my idol, just kidding, TOM JONES at Mystic on the November 25th, “What’s new Pussycat?” . . . Also the Mainstreet Bar and Grill breaks out with a couple concerts in an intimate setting late November with a Pre-Thanksgiving Bash with the Southern Rock Allstars and a Strutter/Kiss Tribute concert later in the week, right on.  Check out this month’s Mainstreet ad for more information . . .  Also, in clubland, the Breakaway Bar in Robbinsdale hosts an every Thursday jam, which I am told is pretty interesting most of the time.  Musicians welcomed, even Billy Thayer of Knight Crawler.  Now you know it must get a little crazy at times.  . . . A Christmas Extravaganza – not already - The Brian Setzer Orchestra live at the Historic Theatre on the 5th of December, get your tickets now, this is probably going to the be the hippest holiday show of the season.  For a little preview pick up one of Brian’s new CDs available this month with a Oct. 21 release date, “Boogie Woogie Christmas” and “Nitro Burnin’ Funny Daddy.” . . .Later Gators. Happy October!
